I grew up in the the West Midlands in England and spent as much time as was humanly possible reading about, talking about or just plain doing something to do with fishing.
Most weekends were spent in the borders of Mid Wales, again, fishing every possible minute. Fishing was on the River Severn, and its feeder streams like the Camlad, Banwy, Riew and many more.
However it was not until I moved to Wiltshire that the flyfishing story began. I first picked up a fly rod in Scotland on a holiday near the mighty Spey. The first effort was at night, in the Spey, wearing wellingtons and fishing for seatrout. Failed miserably but it was the first steps on my fly-fishing journey. I decided early on the need to tie my own flies must be looked in to. My first vice was made from parts from a lawn mower! And before you say it I know some of my flies look like they’ve been run over by the mower!

Nowadays we have moved on a tad but my journey still has many miles to cover. I now work for Orvis in the UK as a fishing specialist and love meeting new and experienced anglers alike as well as those folks who actually didn’t realise they really are anglers too!
So far I have been lucky enough to fish several parts of the UK, Ireland, USA and Argentina in rivers, lakes and saltwater. I love to tie any pattern that takes my fancy and encourage you all to tie something and fish it.
I guess I have a couple of proud achievements to date. Gaining my tying instructors certification and working for Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland as a tying and casting instructor. Sadly this year, like the IFF, CfR has become a casualty of this awful disease too, stopping us doing what we love. Thanks to everyone who ever supported us at CfR.

Venues like the IFF and this brilliant idea for a Virtual IFF serve as testament to the popularity of our sport. The fly-tiers, casters and exhibitors would love to hear from you and answer any questions you may have.
Feel free to get in touch if I can help with your tying or fishing.

A pattern I tied a few years back and has been in the front of my fly box since. The hackle lets the pattern sit right down in the surface and trout love it.
