I started tying salt water flies about 19 years ago. I progressed to trout flies, then wet flies, which led me to Ray Bergman and I started tying his wet flies with the help of Don Bastion's videos. A friend saw me tying floss bodies, hackling bodies, and marrying wings and introduced me to Paul Rossman. I had a lesson with Paul and started tying Salmon flies from Francis Francis' A Book on Angling. I’m now working on the Francis Francis project, where I’ll tie every variation of Salmon and then trout fly in every edition of A Book on Angling, and then write some books. It’s an adventure to discern the meaning of patterns and find obscure materials (Pinna marina anyone?) and small blind eye hooks.

I try to use the techniques (tying in hand) and materials of old, including pig's wool, swan, and hackles dyed with natural dyes, and making them look like the fishing flies they were meant to be I've met many wonderful friends through fly tying and hope to meet many more at this show!
