I’m looking forward to joining you all VIRTUALLY this year. In Denmark, much of our fishing is saltwater fishing for sea trout, so this is where I started my fly-tying. Over the years I have been tying all kinds of flies, but my main focus is still saltwater flies for sea trout, and salmon/sea trout flies for freshwater.

At the show this year, I will bring some of my small zonkers and other stuff I use for salmon, and some of the coastal flies I use for sea trout. Those flies will be a mix of different techniques, some old and proven others new and different. All this gives me the properties in my flies that I want for the different situations.

I do a lot of tying classes, demoes and talks about my flytying, and enjoying it all. I think flytying is best seen live, so drop by and have a chat about flies, fishing and the ideas that I use for my flies.

Step-by-Step The Sandstorm var.

Step-by-Step Winter Squid

This pattern is my own, designed years back. I took some of the technics from my salmon flies, combined those and got a fly that works pretty along the fall and winter period. The reason for me experimenting with these is that sometimes often in the fall or winter due to storms we get some more saline water into Kattegat and that brings some small squid with it. And the seatrout seems to remember those nice snacks :)

One of the most pronounced things with these are there eyes, so that I needed to get into the fly, but and eye at that size, was a bit of a challenge. It took up most of the hookgape, if mounted on the hook, and I wanted the tentacles behind it. So I ended up with doing a extended body with a tube, and then mount the eye on that. I have not experienced that the fish just nips in the tentacles, they come in full speed and slam the fly.

Don’t let all the steps scare you, it is not hard to tie.
